Not all Words Players alumni may go on to pursue further activities or degrees or careers in the Arts, but some have. Take a look to see what they have been involved in with Words Players and what they are up to now. These are just a few examples of the effect Words Players has on individual participants and the community as a whole.


Mackenzie Elker

Ilana Henckel

Words Players roles:

After Words Players:

  • Ilana has been living in the Twin Cities area pursuing a career in acting. Freelancing her education, Ilana has been taking classes at theatres and colleges as she can afford them and gaining experience by volunteering in many community theatres productions.
  • She has acted in two student short films, Enveloped and Bring It All Back Home.

Currently:

  • Ilana is an assistant director to the Harbor Theatre Group improv team and is auditioning In the Twin Cities area.
  • Ilana is also teaching an acting class to the Trott Brook Homeschool Co-op.

Landon Brands

  • Short Films:
    • The Perspective of Love (2011) - created with the help of many Words Players alumni. Sold out premiere (300+ seats); Certificate of Merit at Williamsburg International Film Festival; Audience Choice Award at On The Edge Film Festival.
    • Enveloped (2013) - silent comedy short featuring Words Players Alumni Nick Rudlong and Ilana Henckel. Best of Fest in Student Short Form at Speechless Film Festival.
    • pAges (2013) - dramatic short featuring Words Players cast members Timothy, Elizabeth, and Trish Alexander.
    • Solve for Y (2014) - Media Arts Capstone project at Bethany Lutheran College about an architect who tries to calculate the cause of his attraction to a young woman.
  • Theatre:
    • Theater Physics -  Vaudeville show conceptualized and actualized by Bethany students and professors.  Contributor/Actor (2011)
    • Set and/or lighting crew for multiple productions since 2011
  • Music:
    • Bethany Lutheran College Concert Choir member (2011-12)
  • Education:
    • ​Landon received a B.A. in Media Arts from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, MN, in 2014.

Currently:

  • Landon is a free-lance filmmaker living in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, with a wide variety of projects already under his belt.

Ian Henckel

Celeste Johnson

Words Players roles:

After Words Players:

  • Celeste graduated summa cum laude with a B.M. in piano performance and minor in German from Baylor University in 2011.
  • She spent a year playing for the Baylor A Cappella and Bella Voce choirs (including a 10-day tour of the east coast) and working as a freelance collaborative pianist during the 2011-2012 school year.
  • Celeste completed a Master of Music degree in vocal accompanying at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University in 2014.
  • Celeste was awarded a full tuition scholarship as a Collaborative Piano Intern for the Hawaii Performing Arts Vocal Program in 2014.

Currently:

  • Celeste is currently living in Baltimore, MD, and is a Collaborative Artist at the Cornett Studio in the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins.
  • She is also making significant progress in training as a Jedi Apprentice and considering future secondary careers in yoga instruction and being a starfish.
